A woman has died following an alleged domestic-violence related assault at the weekend.

The 47-year-old was found with head injuries inside a unit on Morehead St in Redfern, Sydney, about 4.30pm on Saturday.

She was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition.

Sadly, the woman died in hospital about 5.40pm on Monday.

Police arrested a 30-year-old man at the scene who they say was known to the woman.

He was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and was refused bail.

Police have not yet confirmed whether charges will be upgraded following the woman’s death.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner as police continue investigating the alleged assault.
