The man handed himself into police a short time after the incident.

A driver has been charged over an alleged hit-and-run in Perth.

A 46-year-old woman was walking on Berwick St, near Wittlesford St, in East Victoria Park when she was hit by a car about 7.45pm on Friday.

The car did not stop and left the scene.

Paramedics treated the woman for serious injuries and she was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital.

The driver, a 27-year-old Bentley man, later presented himself to Perth Police Station where he was arrested and charged with one count of driver failing to stop and ensure assistance received after incident occasioning grievous bodily harm.

He is scheduled to appear at Perth Magistrates Court on June 6.

The investigation is ongoing.
