A 56-year-old driver is undergoing mandatory testing.

An 82-year-old man has died after he was struck by a car while crossing the street.

The pedestrian was walking across North Rd in Ryde, in Sydney’s northwest, when he was hit by a silver Toyota sedan about 6pm on Monday.

He could not be saved and had died by the time emergency services had rushed to the scene.

The Toyota driver, a 56-year-old man, was taken to Ryde Hospital for mandatory testing.

Police have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
