The 37-year-old was set upon as he walked to his parked vehicle.

A man has been assaulted and had his car set on fire in Melbourne’s southeast.

The 37-year-old was set upon as he walked to his parked car on Dennis St in Dandenong about 10.20pm on Sunday.

His ute, which was full of tools, was then set on fire as the offender fled the scene.

The man was treated for a minor laceration to his eye.

The man has chosen not to make a statement and it is unclear why it happened, Victoria Police said.

“The investigation remains ongoing,” Victoria Police said.
