Meghan Markle reveals truth behind her ‘baby mama’ dance in viral twerking clip

The Duchess of Sussex spoke about the clip, which went viral earlier this month.

Meghan Markle has broken her silence on her viral twerking clip, which showed her doing a “baby momma” dance while pregnant with daughter, Lilibet.

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, shared the clip to her Instagram account a fortnight ago. It gained widespread attention including from royal watchers who panned the behind-the-scenes video.

Markle took aim at her detractors during an interview with Dragon’s Den star Emma Grede on her Aspire podcast, saying she can finally live life on her own terms.

“You have to be authentic. Did you see my ‘baby momma’ dance? That was four years ago.” Markle said.

“So, it’s also a really great reminder that with all the noise or whatever people do, there’s still a whole life — a real, authentic, fun life — that’s happening behind the scenes.

“I’m just grateful that now, being back on social as well, I have a place where I can share it on my own terms.”

Markle shared the throwback clip to mark Lilibet’s fourth birthday.

Markle was a week past her due date when, waiting in the hospital with husband Prince Harry, she opted to do the dance in an attempt to induce labour.

“Four years ago today, this also happened,” the video caption read.

“Both of our children were a week past their due dates … so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn’t work there was only one thing left to do!”

Grede praised the light-hearted clip, saying: “We maybe watched it, like, 20 times yesterday and I was, like, is that, is that her?”

Markle laughed.

Grede continued: “Is that Prince Harry there with the fingers? I was like, OK, Meghan and Harry, let’s go. But that’s you, right? Like, that’s you in a way that we kind of haven’t been able to see you before.

“And I did, like, a little secret cheer cause I was, like, well, that’s what I kind of want to see from you. Like, I want to see that happiness and that honesty and that ‘I don’t give a f***’ kind of thing.”

The baby mama dance was a craze on social media in 2018.

Lilibet, the youngest daughter of Meghan and Harry, was born on June 4, 2021.

The youngster, affectionately known as “Lili”, became a princess when King Charles ascended to the throne, following the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II.

Grede, who is the chief product officer at SKIMS, launched her Aspire podcast last month, with identities such as Gwenyth Paltrow and supermodel Karlie Kloss being interviewed on the show.
