A driver has narrowly escaped death after his ute slammed into a power pole, leaving the vehicle shattered.
Emergency services were called to Mona Vale Rd, Terrey Hills on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, about 6.30am on Friday following reports of the crash.
The man behind the wheel, aged in his 20s, was trapped in the wreckage before being freed by emergency crews.

He was treated at the scene before being rushed to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.
Footage from the scene shows the devastating impact of the crash, with the vehicle barely recognisable.
The front end is crushed beyond repair, the cabin has been destroyed, and debris is scattered across the road and footpath.
The impact snapped the power pole and severed the power line, with the pole lodged through the wreckage and visibly tilted.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
