A large industrial fire has broken out west of Melbourne, with the intense flames fuelled by several flammable materials inside a shed.

The blaze broke out on Geelong-Ballan Rd near Pringles Road, Anakie, a small town between Geelong and Bacchus Marsh, at about 6pm on Tuesday.

No one was injured in blaze which was put out safely and deemed under control by about 10pm.

Over 30 Country Fire Authority and Fire Rescue Victoria crews were sent to battle the fire which took hold of a large shed. The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) was also at the site.

The shed contained “significant” amounts of hand sanitiser as well as gas cylinders which helped to fuel the blaze, CFA said.

According to the Ballarat branch of the CFA, approximately 70,000 litres of hand sanitiser was burnt in the fire.

A CFA investigator is expected to visit the scene on Wednesday, with the cause of the blaze still unknown.

Large plumes of smoke were seen billowing into the air.

Authorities have warned nearby residents to expect to smoke in the area and to open their windows and doors for ventilation.
