An elderly man has been charged with the attempted murder of a woman west of Brisbane.

Neighbours heard a disturbance and called to a home in Eastern Heights, Ipswich, about 6.30pm on Monday.

Police were told an 88-year-old man had allegedly attempted to strangle a 33-year-old woman.

Police said the woman was known to the man, who was arrested at the scene.

The woman did not sustain any visible injuries and was not taken to hospital.

The man has been charged with attempted murder, a domestic violence offence, and is due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
